BSFL (Black Soldier Fly Larvae) Composting

Hey Guys,

Last year I ran into some fascinating literature on BSFL (Black Soldier Fly Larvae) Composting. It's amazing stuff that's right up my ally. You all know that I love to build and experiment so I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. Right now I'm in the early (infancy) stages of this project. I'm focused on simply trying to attract some ovipositing (egg-laying) females.

I am curious to find out if Black Soldier Flies are even common in the Hershey, PA area? Obviously I won't have much luck attracting any females to my setup if they're not common to the area. I suppose that someone near me could be breeding BSF's for their own use and I get the stragglers from those efforts.

Some links for your to read up on this fascinating topic:

Change a hot water heater element without draining or spilling water

I have viewed some videos on the internet about changing a hot water heater element without draining the tank first. This is great and saves a ton of time. But in all of these videos you still get water spilling out, getting on the floor and in between the inner and outer shell of the water heater. It's still quite messy and the water is VERY hot!

After changing a few elements the way I saw in these videos, I decided to add a new innovation. I call it the "Water Shoot". It's made from a 2-liter soda bottle. Mine is about 4 inches wide cut up the whole length of the bottle. This simple little tool will protect you from getting burned and it will contain nearly 100% of the water that would otherwise spill on the floor or get in between the inner and outer shell of your water heater. My little water shoot innovation makes this process just about PERFECT!

Let me know what you think of my simple little innovation. You can see it in action here and ascertain for yourself just how useful this method is.

Steps listed all together:

Step 1 - With power on CAREFULLY check that you show 220+ volts down at your element.

Step 2 - Shut the incoming water valve off to the water heater and momentarily open a hot tap at any sink in your house to relieve the pressure on the water heater tank.

Step 3 - After pressure is relieved CLOSE all water taps to re-seal the system. This is the part I forgot to have my mother do. Oops!

Step 4 - Fit your handy (water shoot) tool under the lip of the circular element hole. Angle the lower end of your water shoot into a bowl.

Step 5 - Remove the old element and replace it with the new one.

Step 6 - Tighten new element, replace wires, turn breaker back on and open hot water valve above the water heater.

Join my Clan! -For some fun...

On a side note... I like to play Clash of Clans in my spare time!

I made a new clan called OUPower.com so you can join up if you like! I need clan mates! We need at least 10 members to do the new Clan Wars.

Success through innovation and experimentation! Donations required, so keep them high vs received troops. Troop type requests are fine, NOT demands!

And yes guys... I have Dragons that I can give you! *grin* Working on Dark Elixer stuff now...

Some things I have been working hard on

These are just some of the things I've been doing over the past year...

The kids each needed a bed! And furniture! Dressers, desks...

Bad leak on my incoming well water pipe. It was leaking from the outside ground into the basement through the hole in the wall. The water pipe coming from the well itself was not leaking.

Sorry I have been silent for so long!

Hi Guys,

OK Despite the rumors... NO I have not died. I was not maimed in a crazy high voltage experiment and I have not blown myself up working on some obscure Hydroxy project. I have not chopped any fingers off or my head working on my machine equipment or Wind Turbine designs.

What I have been doing is just trying to survive. My wife and I separated about 2 years ago and it's a very long story. I moved into a new house that I designed, last year but it was small and only what I could afford. It was nothing like I wanted to build back when my wife and I were together. I did my best to build the things that were important to me, into the new design. But much was left out on the count of cost and so I have been crazy busy just trying to get by and finish my house.

I'm sorry for the long silence. I know I have lost a LOT of followers over this but it couldn't really be helped. All I can say is I'm sorry. Hopefully some of you still follow me and will see updates when I pick things back up.

I am working hard to get back into my Clean Energy Technology Research and I have some good foundations laid to that end. I will post some stuff later on showing what I've been up to. It's high time, wouldn't you say!?

So ....anyone out there living near Hershey PA? I've relocated from my old home in Mt. Joy. Give me a shout out!
